sexual abuse treatment

The Program provides individual and family counseling for children who have experienced sexual abuse. The program also provides services to those rare few who have developed sexual behavior problems. Families, both biological and foster, are required to be actively involved in the child's treatment.

Population:

  • Children of all ages who have been sexually abused
  • Children with sexual behavior problems
  • Girls of all ages
  • Boys younger than 12

Treatment of children who have been sexually abused focuses on:

  • Achieving healing in family systems
  • Establishing appropriate family boundaries
  • Decreasing the impact on the child's life
  • Decreasing feelings of responsibility or shame
  • Developing a safety net for child

For Children with Sexual Behavior Problems:

The program utilizes a four-tiered focus with an emphasis on family involvement. Families will be educated about those changes in environment and family practices that help eliminate inappropriate behavior in the child as the child learns the following:

  • Acceptance of responsibility
  • Learning the patterns and triggers that lead to inappropriate sexual behaviors
  • Learning about and valuing the feelings of others
  • Planning new ways to deal with high risk situations
